CSP Bilbao adds Atlantic Arc’s largest quay crane

CSP Iberian Bilbao Terminal has commissioned a new super post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) crane at the Port of Bilbao.

The company invested €9.5 million in the equipment, which is now the largest quay crane in the Atlantic Arc.

The crane will increase the terminal’s capacity to handle larger container vessels and improve operational efficiency.

It joins two existing super post-Panamax cranes already operating at the terminal.

CSP said the new crane will help reduce vessel turnaround times and strengthen the competitiveness of the Port of Bilbao.

The crane features advanced automation, anti-collision systems and onboard cameras to improve safety and handling precision.

It also includes energy-efficient technology and a power recovery system that feeds energy back into the grid, helping reduce emissions.

The crane has an outreach of 20 container rows, a lifting height of 56 metres and a twin-lift capacity of 65 tonnes. Under hook, it can lift up to 83 tonnes, allowing it to handle heavy and oversized cargo.

The investment forms part of CSP Spain’s long-term modernization programme.

The company has invested more than €26 million in the Bilbao terminal over the past decade.

CSP said the new crane strengthens its ability to handle hub services and larger vessels operating on Atlantic trade routes.

In 2025, the Port of Bilbao handled approximately 4.8 million tonnes of containerized cargo and around 424,000 TEUs.
