Naïla Saadé, President of the CMA CGM Foundation, accompanied by Martine Vassal, President of the Departmental Council of the Bouches-du-Rhône and President of the Aix-Marseilles-Provence Metropolis, handed over today at the CMA CGM Group Head Office in Marseilles the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation 2018 Prize to the managers of the Ecole des XV association.
Ecole des XV, recipient of the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation 2018 Prize
This Prize recognizes the work carried out by this association against school dropout and school failure of children from underprivileged backgrounds by offering them an extracurricular program which combines tutoring and rugby sessions.
Ecole des XV was created in 2014 by Denis Philippon, CEO of the Voyage Privé Group. Respect of rules, individual physical commitment and team spirit that are involved in the practice of rugby are especially suited to schoolchildren, who are through this process encouraged to appreciate effort. The Ecole des XV hosts schoolchildren three afternoons per week, during which specialized educators, teachers, sports coaches and numerous volunteers act to lead each child to success.
The 10th edition of the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation Prize is sponsored by Martine Vassal
Created in 2008, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation Prize is awarded each year to two associations, in France and in Lebanon, who stand out through their social and humanitarian projects, providing assistance to vulnerable children.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Prize. On this occasion, Martine Vassal accepted to sponsor this ceremony. Through her action at the head of the Departmental Council, she has significant responsibilities in the fields of social action and aid to children, which are the core mandates of the Department. Most of the associations supported by the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation enjoy close relations with the Bouches-du-Rhône Department.
Naïla Saadé, President of the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation, states: “Each year, the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation Prize shines a light on associations and individuals who bear hope, who move us and who inspire us to pursue and to develop our actions. For its 10th edition, the Foundation has thus decided to award its Prize to the Ecole des XV. This wonderful association promotes school success of children stemming from underprivileged neighborhoods by offering them an extracurricular program which combines tutoring and rugby sessions. This Prize thus underlines the Ecole des XV’s commitment as well as that of its members in favor of these children and their families.”
The sponsor of this 10th edition, Martine Vassal, President of the Departmental Council of the Bouches-du-Rhône and President of the Aix-Marseilles-Provence Metropolis, declares: “I wish to thank Mrs Naïla Saadé for doing me the honor of proposing me to be the sponsor of this 10th edition. I also wish to congratulate her for her action at the head of the CMA CGM Corporate Foundation which contributes to advancing our territory and promoting the values of work, success, innovation and generosity that are dear to us. I am very proud to see the Ecole des XV, which I have supported since its creation and that the Department has accompanied in its development, receive this great award. The values of sports, and particularly those of rugby, which revolve around solidarity, generosity, and surpassing oneself are perfectly in line with the actions and initiatives associated with school tutoring. The issues of education and sports are at the heart of the Department’s actions and I am very pleased to see them honored today.”
Launch of the 2019 call for proposals
Seizing the occasion of this ceremony, Mrs. Naïla Saadé also announced the launch of the Foundation’s 2019 call for proposals on the theme of “Promoting access to education for vulnerable children”. Applications will be open between 10th December 2018 and 9th March 2019.
The CMA CGM Corporate Foundation launches every year a call for proposals, in France and in Lebanon, supporting projects which answer a specific issue. In 2018, the Foundation received a record number of 180 applications and decided to reward 16 French and Lebanese associations for a total amount of 220,300 €. The supported projects that promote equal opportunities have allowed 8,000 children from underprivileged backgrounds to benefit from the Foundation’s support. The recipient French associations were present at the Associations Forum organized on the sidelines of the 2018 CMA CGM Corporate Foundation Prize ceremony.
