cargo-partner, the international transport and logistics provider has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainability by prolonging its partnership with the HHLA Pure program for another year across its branches in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
Initiated in 2023, the collaboration between cargo-partner and the HHLA Pure program aims to cultivate climate-neutral transport chains from European ports into the hinterland. HHLA Pure, a joint venture by Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) and METRANS, harnesses Hamburg’s status as Europe’s largest rail port alongside METRANS’ eco-friendly rail transport solutions, leveraging energy-efficient electric trains and lightweight flat wagons.
The program encompasses various eco-friendly measures, including the deployment of modern hybrid and electric locomotives, extensive electrification processes at HHLA container terminals, and the operation of CO₂-optimized trains and wagons by METRANS. Additionally, any unavoidable CO₂ emissions are counterbalanced through certified development projects meeting the highest international standard (Gold).

In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, cargo-partner’s collaboration with METRANS in 2023 facilitated climate-neutral transports on routes to and from Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Koper. The company’s Czech branch handled transports totaling 3,650 TEUs through the HHLA Pure program last year, while cargo-partner in Slovakia successfully transported 3,181 TEUs in a climate-neutral manner.
Before joining HHLA Pure, the Slovakian branch had already initiated environmentally friendly technologies at its warehouse in Dunajská Streda since 2012, including the use of electric forklifts instead of trucks to transport containers from the METRANS terminal to their logistics centre in Dunajská Streda. With the extension of their cooperation with HHLA Pure for another year, cargo-partner’s branches in the Czech Republic and Slovakia have expanded the program’s reach to additional ports, including Gdańsk, Wilhelmshaven, Rotterdam, Trieste, and Rijeka.
Moreover, cargo-partner Hungary also joined the HHLA Pure program in the first quarter of 2023, enabling carbon-free transshipment and transport of sea freight containers to and from Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Koper, Duisburg, Inđija (Serbia), Gdańsk, Wilhelmshaven, Rotterdam, Trieste, and Rijeka. The first electric truck arrived at the cargo partner’s warehouse in Hungary in May 2023, and the company continues to offer deliveries by electric vehicles as an additional service.
In the past year, cargo-partner Hungary handled a total of 6,054 TEUs from and to Budapest through the environmentally friendly program. The extension of the cooperation with HHLA Pure in Hungary reaffirms cargo-partner’s dedication to sustainable logistics solutions.
Many cargo-partner offices in other countries have also initiated various initiatives to minimize negative environmental impacts: from implementing paperless offices to promoting sustainable aviation fuel, installing photovoltaic systems at several warehouses, or constructing the logistics provider’s iconic warehouse near Vienna airport, built entirely of wood.
