Asia’s US-bound container exports grow in September after 13 months of decline

Container exports from ten major Asian economies to the United States totalled 1.61 million TEUs in September, up 5.2% from the same month in 2022, in the first year-on-year increase after 13 months.

China was the top source of US-bound shipments, transporting 942,548 TEUs, up 6% year on year, the first rise after 13 months. Those from Vietnam and Singapore were also positive, up by 0.2% to 153,604 TEUs and 14.7% to 75,904 TEUs, respectively.

Exports from South Korea, Taiwan, and India, on the other hand, fell 0.7% to 162,331 TEUs, 5.2% to 70,993 TEUs, and 2.3% to 70,096 TEUs. Japan’s container volume increased by 61.1% to 44,545 TEUs.

Furthermore, Asia’s exports to the United States reached 12.861 million TEUs from January to September, translating to a 17.2% decline.
