APSEZ elevates Karan Adani to managing director role

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), India's premier ports and logistics company, has announced the elevation of Karan Adani to the position of managing director, succeeding Gautam Adani, who now takes on the role of executive chairman of APSEZ, a dynamic integrated transport utility known for its rapid growth on a global scale.

During his tenure as CEO, Karan Adani has steered APSEZ through a remarkable phase of expansion, making significant contributions to the nation's infrastructure development. Joining the Adani Group in 2009 at Mundra Port, he assumed the role of CEO in 2016.

Under his leadership, the APSEZ portfolio expanded with the incorporation of four ports and terminals in India, one in Sri Lanka, and one in Israel. Through strategic expansions and partnerships, APSEZ has emerged as the fastest-growing and largest private-sector port developer and operator in India, managing 14 ports along the country's coastline and two ports internationally.

According to a statement, with its subsidiary, Adani Logistics, APSEZ has become the largest and most diversified private rail operator in India, playing a substantial role in both logistics and the harbour & dredging business.

In line with these developments, the APSEZ board has approved the appointment of Ashwani Gupta, the former global chief operating officer at Nissan Motors, as the new chief executive officer of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone.

"We are delighted to welcome Ashwani Gupta as the new CEO of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. His appointment is a strategic move to strengthen our global leadership position in the port sector. We are confident that his expertise, leadership skills and global exposure will drive exceptional growth and foster new international partnerships aligned with the Adani Group’s vision for expansion and innovation," stated Karan Adani, managing director of APSEZ.

Bringing an impressive track record in cultivating significant global partnerships, Ashwani Gupta boasts nearly three decades of experience spanning the automotive, retail, and manufacturing sectors. As a globally recognized leader, he has spearheaded customer solutions through advancements such as electrification, autonomous driving, and digital transformation technologies. Gupta has consistently been at the forefront of driving industry sustainability, innovation, and change, with a particular emphasis on energy transition and customer-centric approaches.
