Fuel additive specialist Aderco has formally launched 2055G+, a new program designed to deliver verifiable emissions reductions and measurable financial returns for shipowners, managers and charterers operating vessels on conventional marine fuels.
What the program does
2055G+ connects fuel treatment technology, verified emissions data and certified carbon credits in a single streamlined solution. It addresses key industry pain points including fuel price volatility, IMO Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) compliance and EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) requirements. All emissions claims are based on verifiable data, addressing growing concerns around transparency and credibility in carbon offsetting.
Early results
More than 100 ships have already entered the program. Fuel savings range between 2% and 5%, with two results independently verified by class societies. ABS confirmed a 4.84% saving on a reefer vessel and RINA verified a 3.25% saving on a capesize bulker.
How it works
At the core of 2055G+ is Aderco’s 2055G fuel additive, a 100% vegetal organic, ashless and metal-free treatment that enhances combustion efficiency, disperses sludge, stabilises fuel and reduces emissions. A vessel typically trials the additive for a minimum of six months, with baseline fuel consumption and emissions data established from historical noon reports extracted during drydocking.
Emissions reduction data is then monitored and reported in partnership with Adi Terra, a project developer specialising in carbon and biodiversity projects. Each verified tonne of COâ‚‚ avoided generates one Voluntary Carbon Credit, issued under the Gold Standard methodology. Shipowners and operators can then resell credits at a profit or use them to reduce their reported carbon footprint.
“The seamless 2055G+ solution is integral to asset management in an era of unpredictable fuel quality and pressure to decarbonise. The tool creates a bridge between the 2055G technology, data and monetisation. This allows operators and charterers to go beyond mere pledges and show that they have taken the actions necessary to meet global sustainability standards” said Esteve Servajean, head of marine, Aderco.
“Aderco is removing the guesswork from green accreditation and providing shipping with a clear and low risk pathway to emissions reduction” said Gérald Baiwir, head of environment, Aderco.
