Saudi ports see increased box volumes in 2023

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) reported 8,443,746 TEUs in 2023, marking a singificant increase from the 7,534,307 TEUs recorded in 2022.

All the Saudi ports experienced a 9% annual growth in container handling, reaching 11,380,302 TEU in 2023, compared to 10,439,620 TEU in the previous year.

Mawani reported a 15.56% increase in exported containers, totalling 2,586,722 TEUs in 2023, while imported boxes also saw a robust growth of 12.68%, reaching 2,619,534 TEUs. Transshipment containers experienced an 8.96% surge, with 3,237,490 TEUs.

According to a statement, this positive growth in container handling highlights Saudi Arabia's successful efforts in advancing the maritime sector and logistics services, aligning with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) to position the nation as a global logistics centre connecting three continents.
