Valenciaport’s private 5G Network: Driving smart port innovation

Valenciaport is advancing its digital transformation with the development of a private 5G network designed to connect over 25,000 devices, including phones, vehicles, surveillance cameras, and sensors.

This US$6 million project, co-funded by the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), aims to position the Port of València as a leader in Smart Port or Port 4.0 technology.

The network will operate on the regulated n40 frequency (2.3–2.4 GHz) to ensure privacy and security. With over 15 base stations, the infrastructure will provide comprehensive coverage of the port’s operations. It features a Stand-Alone (SA) 5G core with a throughput of 10 Gbps, a geo-redundant core network, and advanced cybersecurity measures.

Key Use Cases:

  1. Police Surveillance: High-resolution cameras on police equipment will enhance real-time security monitoring of the port’s perimeter and internal areas.
  2. Remote Maintenance: Immersive telepresence and AI-enabled systems will allow local staff to perform maintenance tasks guided remotely by experts, reducing travel requirements.

The network also supports broader applications, including passenger services, digital twins, intelligent surveillance, collision detection, and stowage planning.

By maintaining exclusive control of the infrastructure, Valenciaport ensures flexibility, scalability, and alignment with its strategic goals, making the port a benchmark for future-ready technology by 2027.
