The Port Authority of Valencia has hosted an institutional delegation from the Port of Long Beach for a working meeting focused on sustainability, decarbonisation and the development of green corridors.
The visit provided a platform for both ports to exchange strategic experiences and identify concrete avenues for cooperation in advancing more efficient and environmentally responsible port operations.
Discussions centred on emissions reduction, the electrification of port operations and the promotion of clean energy across the maritime sector.
Valenciaport Chair Mar Chao outlined the port’s decarbonisation agenda to the American delegation, covering electrical infrastructure development, onshore power supply systems, the introduction of alternative fuels including hydrogen and methanol, and the generation of renewable energy within the port area.
Both delegations acknowledged the role of international cooperation as a key accelerant for the energy transition, agreeing on the importance of strategic partnerships to facilitate green corridor development and the transfer of knowledge and technology between port communities.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to assess the commercial relationship between the two gateways. Valenciaport handled 5,732,681 tonnes and 391,977 TEUs in trade with the US market in 2025, representing a 2.8% increase in tonnage compared to 5,576,935 tonnes in 2024.
