New Electric Truck Joins Fleet
Toll Group has added a Volvo FE Electric 4×2 rigid truck to its fleet to support Origin Energy’s LPG cylinder deliveries. The truck is designed for urban routes and LPG-specific requirements. It offers a daily range of 200–275 km per duty cycle and reduces 39 tonnes of CO2 annually compared to conventional vehicles.
Practical Solution for Heavy Logistics
“This project shows that electric heavy vehicles are not just a concept; they are practical solutions for complex supply chains,” said Michael Rugendyke, President Resources & Industrials at Toll. The collaboration with Origin Energy accelerates the transition to cleaner logistics.
Part of a National Electric Vehicle Initiative
The project is part of Toll’s $67 million investment in battery-electric heavy vehicles and charging infrastructure. The program is co-funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) under its Driving the Nation initiative. Toll will integrate 28 electric vehicles into its nationwide fleet.
Origin Energy Supports Low-Emission Operations
Amber Fennell, General Manager of Origin LPG, said, “Our partnership with Toll enabled us to develop this electric vehicle specifically for LPG cylinder delivery. The trial will provide insights into performance, charging cycles, and efficiency.”
Trial Launch in Brisbane
The Volvo FE Electric rigid truck is now operating in metropolitan Brisbane, moving LPG cylinders between Origin facilities. This trial informs future strategies for low-emission transport and demonstrates the potential of electric vehicles to transform LPG operations.
