Siemens integrates Mevea’s digital twin technology at Port of NEOM

Siemens, a global technology conglomerate, will use Mevea’s digital twins and simulation technology for crane automation at the Port of NEOM in Saudi Arabia.

This technology will facilitate the operation of 10 automated ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes and 30 automated electric rubber-tired gantry (RTG) cranes at the port, located in Oxagon, NEOM’s innovative industrial city.

“Crane automation is critical to meeting our goal of achieving unprecedented levels of throughput velocity. We are delighted that the partnership with Siemens and Mevea will introduce the latest technology and applications for step-change advancements in terminal operations productivity,” stated Sean Kelly, Managing Director of Port of NEOM.

As the first operational asset in Oxagon, the Port of NEOM aspires to be the world’s most technologically advanced, efficient, and sustainable port.

“Mevea´s technology, which we’re delighted to integrate, contributes to our targets for a fast go-live and steep productivity ramp-up for the automated quay and yard cranes in the Port of NEOM,” said Douwe Wagenaar, manager of remote control at Siemens’ cranes department.

The Saudi port is currently undergoing extensive development, including the construction of a new container terminal and a marine services basin designed to accommodate the world’s largest container vessels.

“We are proud to work with Siemens and to contribute to the crane automation software development for Port of NEOM, which is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030,” noted Raimo Nikkilä, Sales and Marketing Director at Mevea.
