A high-level delegation from Israel’s leading port and shipbuilding organisations visited the headquarters of Piraeus Port Authority during the Mare MED III Athens Conference 2026, held in Athens from May 11 to 13 under the auspices of Enterprise Greece.
The meeting was led on the Greek side by PPA Deputy CEO Angelos Karakostas and brought together executives from Piraeus Port Authority with senior representatives of Israel Shipyards and Israel Ports Company.
The Israeli delegation included Shlomi Fogel, Chairman of Israel Shipyards, Zvika Schechterman, CEO of Israel Shipyards, Hezi Halavia, Chairman of Israel Ports Company, and Pinhas Tsruya, CEO of Israel Ports Company.
Discussions covered prospects for bilateral cooperation in port infrastructure, shipping and logistics, with a particular focus on connectivity across Eastern Mediterranean trade corridors and emerging investment opportunities in the region.
A central theme of the meeting was the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, the strategic infrastructure initiative expected to strengthen connectivity between India, the Middle East and Europe.
Both Greece and Israel were highlighted as natural gateways and transit hubs within this corridor, with their respective port systems positioned to play a decisive role in shaping new supply chains and trade flows across the Eastern Mediterranean.
The meeting was followed by a tour of Piraeus port facilities, during which both sides reaffirmed their shared intention to develop practical synergies in port development, supporting broader economic cooperation and stability in the wider region.
