ONE names its first owned newbuilding vessel

Ocean Network Express (ONE) announced a major milestone with the naming of ONE Sparkle, its first-ever owned and operated newbuilding container vessel.

Jeremy Nixon, CEO of ONE, stated, “The naming of ONE Sparkle marks a significant achievement for our company. As our first owned newbuilding, this vessel highlights our dedication to sustainable shipping with its cutting-edge design and alternative fuel readiness. These advanced vessels will be essential in achieving our environmental goals while enhancing service reliability as we grow our owned fleet.”

ONE Sparkle incorporates environmental features, including:

  • Methanol and ammonia-ready fuel systems for future alternative fuel conversion;
  • An optimized hull design for enhanced energy efficiency;
  • Next-generation energy-saving technologies;
  • Smart technology for improved vessel performance; and
  • Shore power connection capabilities for zero-emission operations at port

Moreover, built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, ONE Sparkle boasts a capacity of 13,800 TEUs. The vessel is classed by ABS, flagged under Singapore, and managed by OneSea Solutions, a joint venture between ONE and Seaspan Corporation.

As part of a series of 20 large methanol/ammonia-ready vessels constructed in Korea and Japan, ONE Sparkle is scheduled for delivery in 2025-2026.
