The Oakland Board of Port Commissioners has elected Michael Colbruno as board president. Andreas Cluver has been chosen as the first vice president, succeeding Yui Hay Lee, while outgoing president Barbara Leslie has been elected second vice president.
President Colbruno, who first joined the Port Commission in 2013, is serving his second term as president, having previously held the position from July 2016 to July 2017. Additionally, he served as second vice president from July 2015 to 2016 and again from July 2018 to July 2019.
He is a partner in the Milo Group of California, a government affairs and public advocacy firm, and has a long career in overseeing legislative activities, intergovernmental advocacy, media relations, and community affairs throughout the Bay Area.
A strong advocate for environmental and sustainability issues at the Port, Colbruno will play a key role in pursuing the Port’s zero-emissions goals. He also aims to attract new logistics operators to enhance the Port’s maritime and real estate operations, thereby bolstering the Port of Oakland’s business and supporting the city’s industrial economy.
Andreas Cluver, the newly elected first vice president, served as second vice president from 2022 to 2024, president from 2020 to 2022, and first vice president from 2018 to 2020. A member of the Port Board since 2016, Cluver is the secretary-treasurer of the Alameda County Building and Trades Association.
Second vice president Barbara Leslie, who joined the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners in December 2018, served as board president from 2022 to 2024, first vice president from 2020 to 2022, and second vice president from 2019 to 2020. She is the president and CEO of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce.
The three officers will serve their respective roles for the next 12 months. The Board comprises seven members, nominated by the mayor and appointed by the City Council for four-year terms. Members must reside in Oakland during their term and serve without salary or compensation.
