New multimodal service connects South Korea with Poland

The Russian intermodal container operator PJSC TransContainer has joined forces with Pantos Logistics and the Polish company PKP LHS, to provide a regular multimodal service linking South Korea with Poland via the Russian Far East and Ukraine.

The three partners offer an end-to-end logistics solution. TransContainer of Delo Group provides its containers along the whole route and arranges railway transportation from the Russian Far East to the border with Poland.

At the same time, the Korean logistics firm, Pantos Logistics secures trucking over South Korea, sea transportation and last-mile delivery in Europe, while PKP LHS arranges cargo transportation by railway over the territory of Poland.

Within the framework of the first shipment, 60 containers loaded with electronics, car parts and consumer goods were departed from Busan to reach the final destination of Slawkow station in Poland.

After arriving in the Russian Port of Nakhodka, the freight was dispatched on 3 November by express train to arrive in Poland over the Trans-Siberian railway.

Hence, the rail will go over the Suzemka-Zernovo border-crossing point, run across the territory of Ukraine and arrive in Poland via the Izov-Hrubieszów border-crossing point.

According to a statement, the freight transportation by rail is expected to take 15 days and in the future, the block trains are projected to be dispatched over this route on a weekly basis.

“Railway transportation within the framework of our new service is performed along a longest wide-gauge route in the world: in total, a block train runs over more than 11,000 kilometers,” said Vladimir Khlutkov, Asia-Pacific Business Development Director of PJSC TransContainer.

“Single gauge transportation saves time since there is no need to perform transhipment on route till the border with the country of destination point,” pointed out Khlutkov.
