Maersk updates intermodal fuel fees in UK and Ireland

Maersk has updated its Intermodal Fuel Fee (EFS/IFS) for truck transportation in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

From 1 September 2026, the fee will be 8.3% in the UK and 5.1% in Ireland.

The carrier reviews the fee every month. It said the latest levels reflect continued pressure from global energy prices.

New fuel fee levels from September

The updated Intermodal Fuel Fee for truck transportation will be:

Country Fuel fee
United Kingdom 8.3%
Republic of Ireland 5.1%

Customers with bespoke pricing may face a higher rate. Maersk will communicate these rates directly through account managers.

The carrier first implemented the fee on 1 April 2026. It applies to landside and intermodal transportation.

Maersk linked the measure to higher energy costs and the security situation in the Middle East. The carrier noted that developments around the Strait of Hormuz continue to affect global fuel availability.

FMC shipments have later effective date

For FMC shipments, the updated fee will take effect on 21 September 2026.

For non-FMC shipments, the price calculation date is generally based on the estimated departure of the first vessel in the latest booking confirmation.

Different rules apply to port (CY) bill of lading bookings. In these cases, the calculation date is based on the delivery or collection date.

Maersk said it will continue to review the fee monthly. Therefore, further changes may follow as energy market conditions develop.
