Maersk announces PSS for Indian subcontinent and Middle East to U.S. East coast and Gulf

Maersk has announced a revised Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) set to take effect on August 1, 2025, for shipments moving from the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East to the U.S. and Canadian East Coast and Gulf ports.

The surcharge applies to cargo originating from countries including the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Bahrain, Bhutan, India, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. The adjustment comes as part of Maersk’s ongoing efforts to maintain service levels during high-demand periods.

The updated rates will apply to specified container types and are in addition to existing surcharges, including local and contingency charges. Maersk noted that the changes are consistent with applicable regulatory requirements and do not override any existing tariffs unless formalized in a service contract and properly filed with relevant authorities such as the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange.
