The low water situation on the Rhine River remains unsustainable and the water level at Kaub has reached a new record-low (<30 cm) last week, severely impacting operations to the extent that barges are no longer able to pass the “Kaub” measuring point.
Maersk will apply a low water surcharge of EUR 320/20’ and EUR 425/40’ from 26th November 2018, as long as the water level at Kaub remains below 61cm according to the Electronic Waterways Information System (www.elwis.de).
Low water surcharge is to be applied for transport performed by barge to/from France via Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
“The low water situation is an exceptional and unforeseeable situation that is beyond our control and cannot be predicted, neither the severity nor the duration”, Danish shipping giant said in its press release.
