Kuehne+Nagel has opened a new 3,505 sqm healthcare logistics centre at Frankfurt Airport, expanding its capacity for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical and healthcare products.
The facility is located at Cargo City South and offers direct access to the airport apron. This allows healthcare shipments to move quickly between the logistics centre and cargo handling areas.
New capacity for temperature-sensitive cargo
The HealthChain-certified facility forms part of a 13,000 sqm complex owned by Kuehne+Nagel at Frankfurt Airport.
Around 2,500 sqm is dedicated to controlled room-temperature storage between +15°C and +25°C. More than 500 sqm provides cold-chain storage between +2°C and +8°C.
The centre also includes ultra-low-temperature freezers capable of storing products at -70°C. Temperature-controlled staging areas and dedicated facilities for pharmaceutical trucks are also available.
The facility is GDP-compliant and is designed to reduce transit times and limit the exposure of sensitive products during transfers.
Kuehne+Nagel strengthens Frankfurt healthcare network
The investment follows several recent healthcare logistics developments by Kuehne+Nagel in Frankfurt.
Earlier this year, the company added Frankfurt to its Inspire Boeing 747-8F freighter network. It also launched the Frankfurt-Atlanta Cool Corridor for temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments.
“Frankfurt is an important gateway for healthcare logistics,” said Martin Schaefer, SVP Air Logistics Germany at Kuehne+Nagel.
He said the new facility would provide pharmaceutical customers with greater reliability and connectivity across global supply chains.
The Frankfurt centre joins Kuehne+Nagel’s global network of more than 270 HealthChain-certified locations.
