Kongsberg receives compliance certification for engine room simulator

Kongsberg Maritime has received a DNV Simulator Statement of Compliance for its new Engine Room Simulator model based on the Höegh Aurora.

Kongsberg Maritime has received a DNV Simulator Statement of Compliance for its new Engine Room Simulator model based on the Höegh Aurora, a flagship vessel of Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora Class and a CO₂ pilot programme ship.

The certification follows a full demonstration and audit confirming the simulator model’s compliance with DNV’s maritime simulator requirements and validating its fidelity for advanced training applications.

The Aurora Class represents a significant advancement in sustainable deep-sea shipping, designed to support Höegh Autoliners’ net-zero emissions target by 2040.

The vessels combine multi-fuel capability with readiness for zero-carbon fuels including ammonia, incorporate a suite of energy-efficient technologies and advanced onboard systems, and offer capacity for up to 9,100 vehicles with enhanced capability for electric vehicle transport.

The certified simulator model enables crew training on the complex and novel systems that characterise this next-generation vessel design, supporting operators as they introduce new technologies and transition toward more sustainable operations.

Are Føllesdal Tjønn, Managing Director of Maritime Simulation at Kongsberg Maritime, highlighted the independent DNV verification as a demonstration of the accuracy and quality of the simulator, while Leif Pentti Halvorsen, VP Engine Room and Cargo Handling, underscored the close cross-team collaboration that underpinned the development.

The certification strengthens Kongsberg Maritime’s position as a provider of high-fidelity simulation solutions for the maritime industry’s most technically advanced vessels.
