Kalmar has secured an order for six electric empty container handlers from Lechman Terminais in Brazil, marking a step forward in terminal electrification in Latin America.
The order was booked in Kalmar’s Q2 2026 intake. Delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
The equipment will operate at a container depot in Guarujá, near the Port of Santos. The machines can stack containers up to seven-high and are powered by 400 kWh batteries. This allows operations to run beyond a full work shift without interruption.
The units include multiple safety features. These include reverse warning systems, safety cameras and fire suppression systems. The EGO cabin design improves operator comfort and ergonomics.
All machines will be equipped with the MyKalmar INSIGHT tool. The system includes a digital inspection module that allows operators to manage equipment checks and store data for analysis.
“Having Kalmar as our partner gives us confidence in our operations,” said Altamir Lecham, President and Director of Lechman Terminais. “We are also taking an important step to reduce our CO2 emissions.”
“This is our first order of new-generation electric empty container handlers in Latin America,” said Marcelo Macedo Goncalves, Vice President of Kalmar Latin America. “Electrification helps improve efficiency and reduce emissions while supporting stable operations.”
The order highlights growing demand for sustainable equipment as terminals look to cut emissions and improve performance.
