Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has expanded its international footprint with a new presence in Brazil to strengthen support for South America’s maritime sector.
The new representation is based in Santos, Brazil.
IRS said the office will support shipowners, ship managers, shipyards, offshore operators and other maritime stakeholders across Brazil and the wider South American market.
The company has appointed Felipe A. De Sa as surveyor to support operations in the region.
The appointment will help deliver classification services, statutory certification, technical inspections and marine assurance services locally.
IRS said the move marks another step in its international growth strategy.
The company identified South America as an important market due to strong activity across shipping, ports, offshore energy and shipbuilding sectors.
“Strengthening our presence in Brazil reinforces IRS’s commitment to supporting the maritime industry in South America through local presence, technical expertise and responsive service delivery,” said Saikat Roychowdhury, Chief Operating Officer at IRS.
He added that having a surveyor based in Santos improves service capabilities for both existing and future customers.
IRS expects the expansion to strengthen relationships with regional stakeholders.
The company also plans to support demand for classification, statutory certification, technical due diligence, marine technical services, digital solutions, sustainability services and decarbonization initiatives.
The expansion strengthens IRS’s position as it grows its presence across global maritime markets.
