Idwal introduces condition improvement programme

Idwal, an inspection, technology and data company, has introduced Idwal ID, a comprehensive programme to improve conditions.

This digital platform offers defect management, fleet analytics, and benchmarking by conducting thorough ship inspections and generating dynamic reports based on detailed data.

“Idwal ID brings together our market-leading inspections, maritime experience and digital technology to create a secure, one-stop-shop repository for all inspection information, which can be quickly and easily accessed, analysed, shared and updated. This empowers users to make confident and informed decisions with information that provides a clear business case for necessary change, thereby optimising budget spend and operational efficiency,” stated Nick Owens, CEO at Idwal.

Furthermore, Idwal ID seamlessly integrates all elements of the inspection and condition monitoring process, facilitating the analysis of data to gain insights into overall fleet integrity and specific issues at a detailed level. It centralizes all relevant inspection information, streamlining continuous condition improvement efforts.

Since 2019, Idwal has inspected 15% of the global shipping fleet, conducting over 10,000 unique inspections in 100 countries. This resulted in an average of 15 inspection reports delivered every working day last year.

Nick Owens added, “We have collaborated with several highly regarded shipping companies to develop Idwal ID, including Anglo American, CMA CGM, Cobelfret, Fednav, Swire Bulk, and Tufton. The platform has been tested, sharpened, updated and improved in cooperation with these organisations to ensure it provides exactly the right information and functionality. We have every confidence that this intuitive digital platform will help save time and money, take effective action, and demonstrate excellence both within an organisation and externally – to shippers and charterers, for example.”

According to a statement, leveraging the 10 million data points collected over the past four years, Idwal ID offers grade analytics, benchmarking assets, vessels, and fleets against global averages. The platform grants access to substantial volumes of data for benchmarking purposes while ensuring the confidentiality of proprietary information.

Executives, commercial leaders, and technical directors are currently leveraging Idwal ID to gain precise and unbiased insights into the condition of their fleet. This cutting-edge platform allows them to assess the performance of ship managers and promptly address any defects, leading to enhanced vessel uptime, improved safety measures, reduced risks, and optimization of charter rates and vessel value.

Additionally, the Idwal ID platform is a product of the Idwal team, comprising individuals with extensive sea-going engineering, ship management, and commercial expertise cultivated over decades in the shipping industry. This innovative platform is an extension of Idwal’s flagship product, the Idwal Grade®, which establishes a benchmark in the industry for evaluating vessel condition. Idwal’s sales and purchase (S&P) inspections are industry-leading, and their meticulous condition assessments empower ship owners to compare and benchmark asset integrity throughout their fleet.

We know that using Idwal ID minimises manual processes and reduces the workload for technical teams. In addition, instant access to both the granular detail of individual inspection reports and high-level benchmarking against the global fleet enables recommendations that non-technical people can understand, which technical people can then drill into and implement. This increased visibility supported by simple and clear reporting tools not only provides a solid business case for either targeted maintenance investment or reducing spend, it also provides independent validation to demonstrate excellence,” explained George Haysom, CCO at Idwal.
