Hapag-Lloyd introduces Street Turn Charge in Nigeria

Hapag-Lloyd vessel

Hapag-Lloyd will introduce a new Street Turn Charge (STC) in Nigeria from 1 October 2026.

The charge will apply to containers moved under street turn arrangements in the country.

A street turn allows an import container to be directly reused for a local export shipment under merchant haulage bookings.

Charges vary by container type

For a 20-foot dry container, the new charge will be NGN 15,000 per container. The rate for a 40-foot dry container will be NGN 20,000.

Reefer containers will face higher charges.

The STC will be NGN 45,000 for a 20-foot reefer and NGN 60,000 for a 40-foot reefer.

Charge also covers triangulation

Hapag-Lloyd said the charge will also apply to triangulation arrangements.

This occurs when import on-carriage is combined with export pre-carriage. Both movements are then completed as one trip by the subcontractor or trucker.

The new charge applies to all containers moved under these arrangements in Nigeria from 1 October.
