Genoa and Misurata strengthen cooperation on port and logistics development

The Ports of Genoa welcomed a delegation from the Misurata Free Zone as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation on port and logistics development in the Mediterranean.

The visit took place at the headquarters of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority in Genoa.

The delegation visited the port to learn more about Genoa’s operations, infrastructure projects and future development plans.

The initiative formed part of the Genova–Misurata Free Zone Meeting, promoted by the Genoa Chamber of Commerce.

During the visit, port officials presented the Ports of Genoa and Savona-Vado and highlighted their role as a major logistics gateway linking Southern Europe to international markets.

The discussions focused on the port’s strategic location, improvements to rail and road connections and the expansion of its E-port digital platform.

The Libyan delegation also received an update on the construction of Genoa’s new open-sea breakwater.

The €1.4 billion project will allow the port to accommodate larger container vessels and strengthen its position in global trade.

The visitors toured Genoa’s cargo and passenger terminals and inspected shipbuilding and repair facilities in Sestri Ponente and the Ship Repairs Area.

The meeting forms part of a broader dialogue between the maritime and logistics communities of Genoa and Misurata.

Both sides are exploring opportunities for cooperation in port management, logistics, training and innovation.

Matteo Paroli, President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port Authority, said the visit provided an opportunity to showcase Genoa’s logistics capabilities and its €3.6 billion infrastructure investment programme.

He added that stronger cooperation between ports on both sides of the Mediterranean could create new opportunities in logistics, port operations and economic development.
