DCT Gdansk selects contractors for T3 expansion project

DCT Gdańsk (Poland), the operator of the largest container terminal complex on the Baltic Sea, has signed a contract for the construction of the third deepwater terminal, known as T3. The contract is signed with a consortium of Budimex and Dredging International and work is scheduled to begin in September.

The T3 project will include a 717-metre-long, 17.5-metre-deep deepwater quay and a yard area of 36,5000 m².

In addition, seven new platform cranes capable of handling the world’s largest container ships and 20 semi-automatic Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes will be purchased for the container yard.

When T3 is completed, DCT Gdańsk will be one of the largest container terminal hubs in Europe.

Notably, in its first phase, the new terminal will increase DCT Gdansk’s handling capacity by 1.7 million TEUs to a total of 4.5 million TEUs per year.

Budimex, a construction group in Poland, offers services in sectors such as road, rail and airport infrastructure, as well as energy and sustainable construction using environmentally friendly solutions.

Dredging International will lead the dredging and reclamation work to create the platform that will form the basis of the new terminal.

T3 is scheduled to be operational for commercial operations by mid-2024, with full project completion scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.

“During construction, we will take all precautionary measures to protect the environment, marine life and habitats in the area influenced by the construction. Once complete, the terminal will be the most advanced of its kind in the Baltic Sea and will reflect our commitment to sustainable investing and operating, with reduced CO2 emissions both from the construction, and the equipment we will deploy for future operations,” commented Charles Baker, CEO of DCT Gdańsk.
