DB Schenker launches onboard courier service

DB Schenker, a major global logistics service provider, has unveiled a new standardized product tailored to a growing market segment: Customers now have the option to utilize the exclusive onboard courier (OBC) service, guaranteeing swift and reliable express air transport to and from any destination worldwide.

This latest addition caters specifically to customers requiring urgent courier solutions for small yet high-value shipments. By introducing this new air freight product, DB Schenker further broadens its extensive range of white-glove service solutions.

“With our new OBC service, we are taking air freight to new heights. Whether urgent automotive parts need to be shipped from Germany to China to prevent a line stoppage or a medical device from Canada is instantly needed in a hospital in South Africa – we are now able to take care of any unforeseeable and very short-term requirements of our customers. Through the new white glove service, we address new market opportunities for us as a global logistics solution provider,” stated Thorsten Meincke, global board member for Air & Ocean Freight at DB Schenker.

Following a successful trial phase, DB Schenker has established an OBC service team operating across three continents, ensuring 24/7 availability for OBC requests. Customers can expect prompt quotes within minutes, regardless of the time. A dedicated courier is promptly dispatched to personally accompany cargo items as a passenger on commercial flights, mitigating the risk of loss or damage while guaranteeing the shortest transit time.

DB Schenker’s new express service is distinguished by its rapid response, offering insurance coverage and optional customs clearance. While catering to various shipment types excluding dangerous goods, there is notable demand from key corporate clients in the automotive, electronics, high-end fashion, and healthcare sectors. Real-time tracking ensures maximum transparency, drawing inspiration from the visibility standards of e-commerce deliveries.

“We understand that every shipment is unique. As a fully integrated logistics service provider, we want to be problem solvers for our customers. Sometimes the high value of an item is not related to its purchase price but rather to the costs adding up for every minute the item is not available. While we have already taken care of individual OBC customer requests in the past, we are now rolling out a standardized product offering across all continents,” commented Stefan Pargfrieder, vice president of global air freight strategy & development at DB Schenker.
