Container trailer catches fire in DP World’s Nhava Sheva terminal

A container-laden truck at the dockside of India’s Nhava Sheva Port (JNPA) caught fire yesterday (2 March) evening.

The trailer was reportedly engaged in inter-terminal transport activity for DP World’s Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal (NSICT).

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, according to sources.

However, the incident did not cause any major impact on terminal operations or cargo movement activity in the port.

Additionally, no injuries were reported.

“The terminal is operating normally,” port sources said.

NSICT is DP World’s older box facility in the public harbour. The company’s second facility is known as NSIGT.

Nhava Sheva Port handles a significant portion of India’s containerised trade.

According to the latest data, the port has handled 5.5 million TEUs from April 2022 through February 2023, the first 11 months of the fiscal year 2022-23, up 6.4% year-over-year.  As such, the port is poised to set a new throughput high in the current year.
