CMA CGM newbuilding in Caribbean quay collision

CMA CGM has confirmed that its 2020-built container ship CMA CGM Kourou collided with a quay at Port of Spain, the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago, on 24 October.

All the crew members are safe, according to the company, which stated that the incident occurred because the captain of the ship manoeuvered to avoid collision with a crane.

The French container line said in its announcement yesterday that the damage is minor, while no explosion has been reported and added, “We are working with all relevant authorities to fully assess the damage.”

The 2,200TEU vessel has departed from Port of Spain, according to MarineTraffic, and is currently sailing southeast to Dégrad des Cannes, the main seaport for the French overseas territory of French Guiana.
