BNSF Railway and Spearpoint Logistics have announced a strategic partnership at the Barstow International Gateway in Southern California.

Under the agreement, Spearpoint will establish operations at the inland intermodal development and provide warehousing and transportation services.

The partnership will support international freight moving from Asia and Mexico through Southern California to destinations across the United States.

Spearpoint to add integrated logistics services

Spearpoint specialises in heavyweight cargo and will provide customers with access to:

  • Warehousing
  • Heavyweight cross-docking
  • Distribution
  • Transportation
  • Freight brokerage

BNSF is developing the Barstow International Gateway as an integrated inland logistics hub connected to its North American rail network.

The facility is designed to move international freight from Southern California gateways to inland destinations more efficiently while reducing pressure on regional highways.

“Spearpoint’s expertise in warehousing, heavyweight cross-docking and transportation solutions directly complements the capabilities we are building at BIG,” said Jon Gabriel, Group Vice President of Consumer Products at BNSF.

Gabriel said the combination of rail services and logistics operations at one location would help customers reduce supply chain complexity and improve efficiency.

“The Barstow International Gateway creates a powerful inland logistics platform that will help customers move freight more efficiently from the ports to destinations across the country,” said Richard Miller, Chief Executive Officer of Spearpoint Logistics.

Miller added that the partnership would provide customers with greater flexibility, faster freight conversion and improved inventory positioning.

The arrangement builds on the co-location model already used by logistics partners at BNSF’s Alliance, Texas Logistics Park.
