Port of Barcelona achieves strong numbers in 2021

The Port of Barcelona has announced a significant 31% increase in its container traffic from the start of the year until August, compared with the same period last year.

The major Spanish port reported that 2.41 million TEU have moved through the port during the first eight months of 2021, marking growth both in Barcelona's imports and exports.

Additionally, during the first half of the year, Barcelona port has announced a noteworthy 46% increase in its container rail volumes, surpassing 160,000TEU, with the container rail share hitting an all-time high at the port at 16.1%.

For the period from January to August, the Port of Barcelona wrote in a Twitter post that the overall freight traffic has also increased, achieving a 17.5% growth and exceeding 44.4 million tons.
