2M Alliance changes its Asia-North America sailing schedule

2M Alliance has decided to alternate its Transpacific network sailing in order to mitigate the impact of congestion in California and Asia as well as the consequences of the Ever Given blockage of the Suez Canal.

Maersk has announced its Asia-North America network has accumulated significant delays in 2021, primarily due to continued terminal congestion on both coasts, which was aggravated by congestion and adverse weather in Asia and the Suez incident.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]In particular, the Suez Canal blockage has impacted the global network of the Danish container line, including four of its Asia-US East Coast services that pass the Suez canal in one or both directions.

This has led to each vessel rotation taking up to two-three weeks longer than the standard service journey time, causing gaps in the line-up and that several Asia departures have been spread apart by more than seven days, explains Maersk.

Therefore, the Copenhagen-based carrier has alleviated the impact by deploying extra vessels into each service from Asia, which however has not been possible in full due to a lack of available vessels. “All vessels in our fleet and any vessels that we have been able to charter have been and are actively deployed,” said Maersk.

Maersk noted it will adjust the voyage numbers starting from the sailings below in order to match the actual departure weeks and provide better schedule reliability and visibility.

At the same time, Maersk’s 2M Alliance partner, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), has also confirmed that it is planning to adjust its sailing programme on its Transpacific trade to match the actual departure dates from Asia, “due to the current challenging market situation impacting port activities, generating congestion and schedule delays across the supply chain.”

In the meantime, 2M Alliance’s TP6/Pearl, TP10/Amberjack and TP88/Pelican services will not be impacted by the restructuring of the network.
