Yang Ming to use new 2,800TEU ship into intra-Asia routes

The Taiwanese container line, Yang Ming has named its 2,800TEU class full container vessel YM Continuity during a virtual ceremony and has announced it will deploy the new feeder on its JTS service, which is included in the company's intra-Asia network.

YM Continuity will sail under the following port rotation from 1 July, Nagoya – Tokyo - Chiba - Yokohama - Keelung - Kaohsiung - Hong Kong - Shekou - Port Kelang - Singapore - Manila South Port - Kaohsiung - Hong Kong - Shekou - Xiamen – Nagoya.

Yang Ming's newbuilding is the ninth vessel in the series, has a nominal capacity of 2,940TEU and is equipped with 353 plugs for reefer containers. With a length of 209.75 metres, a width of 32.8 metres and a draft of 11.2 metres, YM Continuity is designed to cruise at a speed up to 21 knots.

Additionally, the vessel adopts the Sea Sword Bow design to save energy and optimise hydrodynamic performances, while the application of its electronic controlled fuel injection engine with low-load tuning Exhaust Gas Bypass (EGB) fuel control system will enhance the new ship’s energy efficiency.

Yang Ming said in its announcement that the installation of scrubbers will help the company to reduce emissions of NOx and SOx. Furthermore, YM Continuity is certified with ABS’ Smart INF and Smart SHM notations and CR Classification Society‘s “Smartship H, Et, I” notations. According to a statement, the recognitions denote that the vessel is equipped with smart information infrastructure of big data acquisition and cloud transmission, which allow ship structure endurance monitoring and future structural health awareness through ABS’s customised analysis program to ensure sailing safety.
