Yang Ming has released a new customer advisory underscoring the crucial importance of accurate and complete cargo declarations to ensure safe, compliant and uninterrupted transport operations both at sea and onshore.
The company reminds shippers that all cargo details — including full and truthful descriptions, characteristics and required documentation — must be provided at the time of booking and during bill of lading issuance. Accurate declarations are essential for regulatory compliance, smooth handling and the overall safety of vessels, crew and port personnel.
Yang Ming warns that any concealment, omission or misdeclaration — whether involving standard cargo requiring special declaration, waste cargo or dangerous goods — can lead to serious risks, including danger to life, property damage, major economic losses and disruption to the carrier’s operations.
If inaccurate or false cargo information is identified, shippers will be obligated to:
-
Pay any difference in freight or charges, along with all additional costs arising from the misdeclaration
-
Indemnify and hold Yang Ming harmless against all losses, damages, expenses, claims or legal actions resulting from the concealment or misdescription, including those involving injury, death or property damage
Yang Ming also highlights that a Cargo Misdeclaration Fee will be applied whenever any form of misdeclaration is detected — even if no actual loss or damage occurs — in addition to any other applicable charges or liabilities.
The company urges customers to comply fully with these requirements to support a safe, reliable and compliant shipping environment for all stakeholders.
