Wilhelmsen Ship Management announces CEO transition

Wilhelmsen Ship Management has announced the retirement of Carl Schou, who steps down after 19 years with the company, including 16 years as CEO.

Throughout his leadership, Schou successfully guided the company through industry challenges, driving a culture of safety, innovation, and growth. Effective 1 January 2025, Haakon Lenz, the current Chief Operating Officer, will take over as CEO.

During his tenure, Schou was instrumental in transforming Wilhelmsen Ship Management into a global leader, recognized for its progressive, responsible, and dependable ship management.

New CEO Haakon Lenz brings a wealth of experience across operational and technical roles. His career began at DNV before moving to ship management with V.ships Norway. Since joining Wilhelmsen Ship Management in 2008, he has held several leadership roles, including Vice President for Region Europe and the United States.

Most recently, as COO, Lenz oversaw global operations. His background as a naval architect, combined with his extensive experience in ship management, positions him well to lead the company into the future.

As Lenz assumes the CEO role on 1 January, Carl Schou will continue to support him as a senior advisor for six months, ensuring a seamless transition for customers, employees, and stakeholders.

In 2025, Wilhelmsen Ship Management will also celebrate 50 years of operations under Wilhelmsen Group ownership.
