WEC Lines has upgraded its containerised freight service between Bilbao, the United Kingdom, and Ireland with the introduction of a second vessel, improving transit times and expanding its port coverage.
The revamped route, now branded NWC Spain, will depart from Bilbao every Friday, reaching Liverpool on Mondays and Dublin on Wednesdays. The new rotation includes Antwerp, Le Havre, Montoir-de-Bretagne, Bilbao, Gijón, Liverpool, and Dublin, creating a more efficient maritime link between Northern Europe and the Iberian Peninsula.
The service offers short transit times of seven days from Antwerp and two days from Montoir-de-Bretagne to Bilbao, connecting seamlessly with rail routes to Barcelona, Valencia, Madrid, Zaragoza, and Agoncillo (La Rioja). From Liverpool, onward rail connections will link to Belfast, Mossend, and Greenock.
Two vessels with capacities of 812 and 822 TEU will operate on a fixed weekly schedule, providing greater flexibility and reliability for shippers seeking alternatives to road transport from Spain.
