Wärtsilä has signed a three-year Guaranteed Asset Performance (GAP) agreement with Société Mauritanienne d’Électricité (SOMELEC) for its 34 MW balancing power plant in Nouadhibou. The plant, equipped with Wärtsilä 32 and 46 engines, plays a key role in stabilizing Mauritania’s electricity supply.
The agreement expands Wärtsilä’s support from technical advisory to full lifecycle management, including on-site operational support, unplanned maintenance, major overhauls, and spare parts supply.
“By expanding our partnership with Wärtsilä, we strengthen grid stability and ensure the plant’s long-term performance,” said SOMELEC Director General Khroumbali Lehbib.
Patrick Borstner, Wärtsilä Energy’s Director for Africa, added: “This performance-based model reflects SOMELEC’s confidence in our expertise and highlights our commitment to reliable, efficient power solutions.”
The Nouadhibou plant agreement continues the long-standing collaboration between Wärtsilä and SOMELEC, supporting Mauritania’s energy security with optimized, performance-driven solutions.
