Wan Hai website hacked in Good Friday attack

The website of the Taiwanese liner operator Wan Hai Lines was shut down for three days after being hacked on Friday (18 April).

In a filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, Wan Hai spokesperson Laura Su said: “After discovering the hacking attack, our company immediately initiated various security protection measures and Isolate and handle the case, and cooperate with the commissioned foreign security technology company and experts to assist in handling the matter, and then report to the competent authorities in accordance with the procedures.”

Su sought to assure the public that customers’ data was not compromised.

She noted: “This incident has a negative impact on the company’s operations, information security. There’s no significant impact on personal data. The company will continue to improve the security control of the network and information infrastructure.”

Wan Hai’s website was restored on 21 April.
