Wan Hai offers limited-time carbon offset route service

Wan Hai Lines actively completes its corporate sustainability commitments by participating in the inaugural offerings of the Taiwan Carbon Exchange.

The company has secured 2,000 tons of Gold Standard-certified carbon credits, extending support to water and economic development initiatives in developing nations.

Complementing this, Wan Hai provides carbon offsets for its Japan-Taiwan route, encouraging customers to partake in environmental conservation endeavours. Addressing long-standing concerns about health and sanitation in Africa and India, Wan Hai subscribes to carbon credits for a good project in Africa and renewable energy initiatives in India, aligning with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) encompassing health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and climate action.

Wan Hai has chosen its flagship route, the JTS Service from Japan to Taiwan, for voluntary carbon offsetting spanning from 27 February to 12 March. This endeavour aims to establish a carbon-offset route service as a gesture of gratitude to long-time supporters of Wan Hai.

The route boasts state-of-the-art high-efficiency smart vessels and incorporates various energy-saving devices, resulting in improved fuel efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions through meticulous data tracking and analysis.

Wan Hai said it has ingrained these principles into its business philosophy. Pledging towards the 2050 net-zero target, the company directs its focus on fleet renewal, investments in energy-efficient engines and equipment, and the continuous enhancement of fuel efficiency through vigilant monitoring and data analysis.

Wan Hai has secured a spot in the “Common Wealth Sustainability Award Top 100” for two consecutive years and received the TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award. Notably, its sustainability report achieved a Gold Level in the first category within the transportation industry.

In various sustainability assessments, including FTSE Russell, S&P CSA ESG, and Sustainalytics ESG, Wan Hai has consistently performed well, achieving high scores.

The company continues to expand its greenhouse gas inventory scope, holding dual certifications from ISO 14064-1:2018 and GHG Protocol, providing a transparent understanding of its carbon emissions status.
