Cargo discharge operations aboard the Wan Hai 503 are moving forward under the supervision of specialist teams as the vessel undergoes a complex post-incident recovery process.

According to Wan Hai Lines, several hatch covers and containers were either deformed or melted during the fire, requiring extensive cutting and removal before lifting operations can safely begin. This has added significant time and complexity to the discharge work. The company also confirmed that water drainage from the cargo holds is still underway. Around 7,603 tonnes of firefighting water have been pumped out to date, although progress has slowed because cargo debris continues to obstruct pumps, pipes and hold openings, creating the need for additional clearance efforts.

As of 22 November 2025, identifying individual containers during discharge has become increasingly difficult due to their damaged condition. Based on current assessments, approximately 1,246 containers have been removed from the vessel, while an estimated 476 remain onboard.

Wan Hai Lines said its teams, together with external experts, are working to accelerate the unloading process while maintaining strict safety standards. The company expressed gratitude to authorities, partners and professional crews for their continued support throughout the recovery operation.
