Wallem launches vessel IT security and management services

Wallem Group has introduced its Vessel IT Security and Management Services (VITS), a suite of consultancy and support solutions designed to protect shipboard IT systems in an increasingly digitalised and regulated maritime environment.

Developed with a vessel’s full digital ecosystem in mind – from business networks to IoT systems – VITS combines six management and security services aimed at ensuring IT reliability and mitigating cyber risks.

The package includes 24/7 Servicedesk Support, Remote Vessel Infrastructure Support, and Onboard IT Support for more complex cases requiring engineers to attend ships directly.

“The VITS suite is Wallem’s comprehensive response to shipping’s advancing digitalisation, and the critical role IT reliability plays in maritime operations,” said Steve Whitby, Group IT & Technology Director, Wallem Group. “Ship owners increasingly seek efficiencies from remote IT support, remote management, and remote monitoring of vessel operations. Securing these benefits requires deep IT knowledge and long-standing maritime experience. VITS delivers these core specialised services.”

Cyber security is another core element. VITS incorporates Vulnerability Management through annual system scans and security hardening, Advanced Endpoint Protection powered by machine learning, and an Enhanced Backup Service with network-based back-up, virus protection, and restoration support. A Security Benchmark Service also highlights gaps in compliance and best practice.

“Modern vessel operations demand connected IT infrastructure, but this can expose outdated onboard systems and deficiencies in support,” added Whitby. “Owners must secure networks, onboard systems, and data against ransomware, phishing, and unauthorised access. VITS offers tailored services to safeguard vessel IT.”
