Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company opens new vehicle entry gate facility

Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC), part of Global Ports Group, located at the port of Vostochny in Russia, commissioned a new vehicle entrance gate facility (VGF), linking the terminal to Artem – Nakhodka – port of Vostochny road.

Through the new facility, together with the adjacent road infrastructure, the terminal will be able to handle up to 900 trucks per day, amounting to approximately 340,000 TEU per year.

“The expansion of vehicle capacity is a consistent step in the development of Global Ports’ Far East terminal as a strategic link in the logistics chain for import and export cargo. The launch of the new entrance facility will allow for a 10-fold increase in the VSC throughput capacity for container pick-up and drop-off by road,” Albert Likholet, CEO of Global Ports said.

“This will ensure even more efficient cargo handling and contribute to the development of Primorye-1 international transport corridor between the northern provinces of China and the ports of Primorskiy Krai,” he added.

The new entrance facility includes the infrastructure of the state border crossing point, along with buildings for state control and terminal security personnel, a covered inspection area and an open parking area, pedestrian galleries for safe passage to the administrative buildings above the railway tracks and the roadway.

The amount of investment for the construction of VGF and the related reconstruction of the terminal infrastructure amounted to more than US$6.1 million (350 million rubles).

Global Ports has been trying to modernise the VSC for more than five years. During this time, total investments to upgrade the terminal’s infrastructure and equipment exceeded US$75 million (4.3 billion rubles).
