Vietnamese feeder ship demolishes crane

A feeder container ship crashed into a crane on the Long Tau river near Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on Sunday, 21 February.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The 672TEU boxship Phuc Khanh, which is operated by the Vietnamese company Global Logistics Services, suffered an engine failure and lost its power, which led the boxship to destroy the port equipment, according to Maritime Bulletin.

The crane collapsed onto the vessel causing serious damages to the ship and to the containers. Additionally, there are four reported boxes to have fallen on the river.

The 2004-built Phuc Khanh was towed to a terminal in Ho Chi Minh City after the incident. “The vessel is currently at port Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam after a voyage of two days, 13 hours originating from port Hai Phong, Vietnam,” reports the global ship tracking system, MarineTraffic, which says that the current ‘status’ of the vessels is “Underway using Engine”.

Container News has contacted the vessel operator but at the time of writing there has been no response.
