VARD to build four new multi-purpose robotic vessels for Ocean Infinity

VARD has signed a new contract with Ocean Infinity for the design and construction of four Multi-Purpose Robotic Vessels (MPVs), further strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two companies. The contract value exceeds EUR 200 million.

VARD, the Norwegian subsidiary of the Fincantieri Group, will deliver the vessels as part of Ocean Infinity’s continued expansion in advanced robotic and unmanned maritime operations. The MPVs are designed to support a wide range of offshore activities, including remotely operated and autonomous missions.

The agreement also includes a comprehensive scope of supply from several VARD group companies.

Vard Electro will deliver the full suite of SeaQ systems to enable remote operations, while Vard Interiors will be responsible for complete interior solutions, combining innovative design with energy-efficient systems to support crew comfort and operational performance.

In addition, Seaonics will supply the Launch and Recovery System (LARS), facilitating advanced handling of ROVs and geotechnical equipment.

Two of the vessels will be built at VARD’s Norwegian shipyards, with deliveries scheduled for the first and second quarters of 2028. The remaining two vessels will be constructed at Vard Vung Tau in Vietnam and are expected to be delivered in the third and fourth quarters of 2028.

“In the era of unmanned vessels, this new contract with Ocean Infinity illustrates the ability of Fincantieri and VARD to deliver pioneering solutions for the robotization of the maritime industry,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, Fincantieri.

“Our global production network and technological leadership enable us to support our world-class partners in their endeavors, consolidating Fincantieri’s role as a partner of choice, a point for breakthrough innovation and operational excellence.”
