Valenciaport has initiated development work on the area surrounding the Fishermen’s Market, known as the Lonja, and Tinglado 5 at the Port of Valencia, launching a tender for the design of an office complex and public space improvement project on behalf of the Port Authority of Valencia.
The project encompasses road layout reorganisation, pedestrian route creation, improved lighting, landscaping and updated street furniture across the designated area.
A central objective of the project is improved accessibility, with all works required to comply with current accessibility regulations.
The design must ensure continuity of existing cycle lane and pedestrian access connections from the adjacent passageway area, balancing functional road and pedestrian circulation with the enhancement of public space use in the zone.
The project carries particular heritage sensitivity, as Tinglado 5 forms part of an architectural complex designated as a Site of Local Importance and constitutes a recognised element of Valencia’s maritime heritage.
Works in its vicinity must therefore be planned with appropriate consideration for the protection of this historically significant structure.
The initiative forms part of the strategic vision outlined in the Port Authority of Valencia’s Strategic Plan, in which the relationship between the port and the city is identified as a priority area of action.
By improving public accessibility, urban quality and pedestrian connectivity in this transitional zone between port and city, Valenciaport seeks to strengthen the integration of port infrastructure with the surrounding urban fabric and reinforce its commitment to sustainable and people-centred port development.
