Valenciaport advances border security initiative

The Port of Valencia is progressing with its European-funded security enhancement program for the Valencia and Sagunto ports through the procurement of a pilot container that will serve as the core component of this security initiative.

The Port Authority of Valencia has confirmed that the infrastructure is currently being transported for imminent installation at Valencia Port.

This security enhancement program receives 75% funding from the European Union through the European Security Internal Fund, with a comprehensive budget totaling EUR€589,825.

The APV seeks to enhance external border management capabilities, streamline migration flow processing, and strengthen prevention, detection, and investigation of terrorist activities and other serious criminal offenses through this initiative.

The pilot facility will incorporate cutting-edge passport verification technology and user support systems. The installation will include expansive windows, thermal regulation systems, optimal lighting infrastructure, and operational furnishing.

Engineered for seamless functionality, this new installation will enable secure identity authentication and immigration processing procedures with comprehensive operational reliability.

This facility represents an advancement in transnational security within the collaborative framework between Valenciaport, European institutional partners, and Spain’s Interior Ministry for border control enhancement implementation.

The initiative encompasses deployment of the Entry and Exit System alongside the European Travel Information and Authorisation System.

The EES will facilitate digital documentation of border crossings, departures, and access denials for non-EU nationals, while ETIAS will conduct pre-travel risk assessments before authorizing traveler movement.

Complementing these systems, verification and monitoring tablets will be acquired to support control team operations and enhance efficiency in border information documentation and surveillance activities.
