
As Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA) reported, U.S. container imports from Asia in July reached 1.92 million TEUs, according to Descartes Datamyne. The figure marks a 1.2% increase year on year and a sharp 25% jump from June.
From January to July, imports from 10 major Asian economies totaled 11.77 million TEUs, up 3.5% compared with the same period last year. Overall U.S. imports in July stood at 2.62 million TEUs, an increase of 2.5%.
China remained the top source, despite volumes falling 7.8% to 1.03 million TEUs. On a monthly basis, however, imports from China surged 40.4% as shippers rushed cargo ahead of tariffs and met peak season demand.
Vietnam posted strong growth, up 34.5% to 262,358 TEUs. Imports from India also climbed 30.7% to 87,768 TEUs. Singapore saw a 5.5% increase to 78,228 TEUs. By contrast, South Korea’s exports to the U.S. dipped 6.6% to 208,438 TEUs.
