WAN HAI Lines has issued a further update on recovery operations aboard the container vessel WAN HAI 503, where cargo discharge and cleanup activities are continuing under the close supervision of specialist response teams.
Distressed cargo and debris are currently being discharged from Cargo Holds 3 and 5, while cleaning operations in Cargo Hold 1 are nearing completion, with only minor cargo remnants remaining.
In parallel, teams continue to drain firefighting water from the cargo holds. To date, approximately 11,089 tonnes of firefighting (fifi) water have been removed. The company noted that pumping operations have become increasingly challenging due to cargo residue obstructing pumps, pipelines and hold openings, requiring additional time and careful handling to maintain safe progress.
As of 14 December 2025, the condition of the remaining containers onboard has made individual identification more difficult during the unloading process. Based on current assessments, an estimated 1,580 containers have been successfully discharged, while approximately 142 containers remain onboard.
WAN HAI Lines said it is working closely with onsite experts to overcome operational challenges and accelerate the unloading process, while ensuring that safety standards remain the top priority. The company also expressed its appreciation to the relevant authorities, partners and professional teams for their continued support and cooperation throughout the recovery operation.
