Tykoflex and Kongsberg Discovery develop subsea infrastructure

Tykoflex AB and Kongsberg Discovery have announced a strategic partnership to advance the development of modular, intelligent, and secure subsea infrastructure.

This will combine Tykoflex’s proven fiber optic closure systems with Kongsberg’s cutting-edge sensor, communication, and positioning technologies. The partnership leverages the strengths of both companies to deliver innovative, dual-use solutions for civilian and defense applications.

Richard Petersson Wigh, CEO of Tykoflex AB stated that this would be a platform for innovation and invite others to join in shaping the future of resilient subsea systems.

The joint solution supports applications ranging from marine environmental monitoring, such as studying noise pollution and its impact on marine wildlife, to enhancing critical infrastructure protection through distributed sensing and secure communications.

This type of dual-use technology addresses both scientific and strategic security needs.

Nils Waltre, Senior Sales Manager at Kongsberg Discovery, added that by integrating our sensor and autonomous systems with Tykoflex’s subsea infrastructure, they are delivering system-level innovations fit for tomorrow’s challenges.

The collaboration emerges at a time of heightened geopolitical tension and increased attention to subsea vulnerabilities, especially in light of recent incidents involving cable and pipeline damage in the Baltic Sea. NATO and EU stakeholders have called for stronger protections of critical undersea infrastructure.
