Tropical Shipping announces peak season surcharge between US or Canada and islands

Tropical Shipping has introduced a peak season surcharge for shipments moving between the continental US or Canada and the Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as between the Continental US or Canada and the US Virgin Islands.

The surcharge will apply to all cargo received from October 5, 2025, through March 1, 2026.

For shipments to and from the Turks and Caicos Islands, the surcharge will be US$ 125 for 20-foot dry and refrigerated containers, and US$ 250 for 40-foot dry and refrigerated units. Containers larger than 40 feet will carry a surcharge of US$ 281.



Cargo charged by weight or volume will incur fees of US$ 0.32 per hundredweight and US$ 0.16 per cubic foot.

Vehicles not exceeding 700 cubic feet will be charged US$ 125, while larger vehicles will be subject to US$ 6.25 per short or freight ton, the same rate applied to breakbulk cargo.

Barrels will carry a fee of US$ 2.34 each, and pallets will be charged US$ 12.50 each.

For shipments to and from the US Virgin Islands, the surcharge is higher.

A 20-foot dry container will be charged US$ 188, while a 40-foot dry container will carry a fee of US$ 376.

For refrigerated equipment, the surcharge is US$ 225 for 20-foot units and US$ 450 for 40-foot units. Containers larger than 40 feet will be subject to US$ 423.

Cargo calculated by weight or volume will face surcharges of US$ 0.48 per hundredweight and US$ 0.24 per cubic foot.

Vehicles not exceeding 700 cubic feet will be charged US$ 188, while larger vehicles will pay US$ 9.40 per short or freight ton, a rate also applied to breakbulk cargo.

Barrels will carry a surcharge of US$ 3.53 each, and pallets will be charged US$ 18.80 each.

Tropical Shipping noted that these adjustments are designed to address seasonal pressures and maintain reliable service levels during the peak shipping months.
